---

The Government of the City of Buenos Aires, through its program "Honorary Representatives of Buenos Aires" and the Ministry of Culture, organizes the international edition of the independent film festival BAFICI in the city of Helsinki, Finland.

The event is supported by the Government of the City of Helsinki, the Argentine Embassy in Finland and Agencia Latina, a non-governmental organization that promotes the integration of Latin-Americans in Helsinki.

With the purpose of positioning Buenos Aires as a home of talent and creativity, a free film festival will be held over three days, whose schedule will consist on seven films directed by Argentine female filmmakers who have participated in previous editions of BAFICI in Buenos Aires. The intention of this selection is to make visible the work of women in the film industry and encourage the discussion about the situation of women in contemporary cinema.

The feature films that will participate in this international edition are: “The Cinephiles” by María Álvarez, “Today Match at 3” by Clarisa Navas, “Luisita’s Photo Estudio” by Sol Miraglia and Hugo Manso, “Vergel” by Kris Niklison, “Livingston: The Man and The Method” by Sofía Mora, “The Streets” by María Aparicio and “Ínsula” by María Onis. All the movies are in Spanish with subtitles in English.

The festival will be held on September 13th, 14th and 15th at two locations simultaneously: Oodi, one of the most modern libraries in Europe, and Rikhardinkadun kirjasto, the first public library in the Nordic countries. There will be different spaces to enjoy a photographic exhibition of iconic places of the City of Buenos Aires, listen to live music and participate in talks with specialists.

The Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema (BAFICI) is the most important independent film festival in Latin America. Every year it brings together the most outstanding films of national and international filmmakers. In its XXI edition that took place last April, more than 390,000 people enjoyed the most innovative and groundbreaking cinema with 89 films screened at 37 venues throughout the City.

In October 2018, the Chief of Government Rodríguez Larreta and Mayor Vapaavuori signed the Framework Agreement of Cooperation and Friendship. It seeks to deepen relations between the two cities, promoting cooperation in areas such as education, sustainable urban development, public transport and gender equity. This event is a step further to strengthen the bonds between Helsinki and Buenos Aires.

Entry is free.
