PROGRAMA SUR 2023: Translation Support Program for the year 2023 has officially opened

OPENING PROGRAMA SUR EDITION 2023

The PROGRAMA SUR Translation Support Program for the year 2023 has officially opened. This Program has been launched based on the commitment assumed by the Argentine Government to promote the translation of works by Argentine authors to facilitate their publication in foreign languages ​​and promote our imaginary, ideas and values ​​abroad.

Those literary pieces can be chosen within the different literary genres and from classic and contemporary Argentine authors, whose themes are representative of the national identity.

New applications will be received until September 30, 2023 and the approved works must be published before November 30, 2024.

Publishers who wish to apply must send us a presentation in accordance with the REGULATION and FORM that can be found on the following PROSUR website:

Additionally, it is suggested to complement the promotion of the South Program with the catalogs of the “Argentina Key Titles Program” that can be downloaded from the website. The Argentine Embassy in Helsinki operates as a point of contact for the interested publishers in Finland, Estonia and Latvia and as a reception point for presentations.

The Program Committee is integrated by outstanding literary, cultural and publishing personalities in charge of evaluating the applications, recommending the acceptance and determining the amount of the subsidy up to a maximum amount equivalent to USD 3,200.
Since its creation, it can be affirmed that the balance of this program constitutes an unprecedented success for the promotion policy of the Argentine publishing sector abroad. In quantitative terms, the SUR Program has become the largest translation subsidy program in the American continent, with an average of 135 works per year.
To this date, the SUR Program had approved the translation of 1,652 books into 50 languages ​​and whose publications cover 52 countries, having allocated an approximate budget of more than USD 4,500,000. The approved translation requests are made up of more than 480 Argentine authors in total.
