Parental permission to travel

PARENTAL PERMISSION TO TRAVEL

I. What is a parental permission to travel?

A parental consent is an authorization to travel alone, accompanied by only one parent, or accompanied by third parties, to and from Argentina. According to DNM Provision 1344/2022, authorization is required to leave the country for children and adolescents under 18 years of age, whether Argentine citizens or foreign nationals with permanent, temporary, or precarious residency in Argentina, or who have remained in the country for one year or more since their last entry.

II. Who can grant a parental permission to travel?

The only individuals authorized to grant a travel permit are the minor's parents who have legal custody or, failing that, the legal guardian.

III. What happens when a minor has only one parent?

The parent with custody must present the minor's birth certificate to this Consular Section as proof of relationship, as well as documentation establishing the authorizing parent's sole custody and/or the death certificate of the other parent, as appropriate.

IV. How do I apply for a parental permission to travel?

Both parents must appear in person at the offices of this Consular Section - after paying the corresponding fee and with a scheduled appointment - with the following documentation:

1) National Identity Document (DNI) and valid passport of the Argentine parent(s), or valid passport if the parent is a foreign national;

2) National Identity Document (DNI) and passport of the minor(s) traveling if they are Argentine citizens, or valid passport if they are foreign nationals;

3) Original birth certificate(s) of the minor(s) with Apostille (Apostille Stamp);

4) Residence card/ID in the jurisdiction of this Consular Section (Finland, Estonia, or Latvia) of the applicant.

To begin the process, please send scanned copies of the documentation mentioned in point IV to consular_efinl@mrecic.gov.ar

The travel authorization can also be obtained from a local notary public. For this document to be valid in Argentina, the travel authorization must be written in Spanish -or translated into Spanish- and apostilled (Apostille Stamp).

V. What is the content of the travel authorization?

According to the parents' wishes, the authorization may be broad, allowing their child to travel to all countries worldwide until they reach the age of majority, or it may be restricted (until a specific date, for a specific trip, to a certain destination, etc.). If the minor is authorized to travel with an adult, the accompanying adult's information must be included.

NOTE: IF YOU INTEND TO GRANT TRAVEL PERMISSION TO OTHER COUNTRIES FROM A THIRD COUNTRY, EXCLUDING ARGENTINA, IT IS SUGGESTED THAT YOU VERIFY THE REQUIREMENTS WITH THE CONSULAR AUTHORITIES OF THE RELEVANT COUNTRY.
