The mission of Helsinki-based Kulttuurikeskus Ninho Association is to make children's culture in Finland more diverse and accessible, supporting children and their families who speak Spanish and Portuguese at home. Ninho’s two main projects are:
1. Kolibrí Festivaali: a multidisciplinary, multilingual and multicultural children's festival, unique in the Nordic countries. Each Autumn Kolibrí offers a week of free events for families: multidisciplinary art and science workshops, concerts, performances, exhibitions, seminars, all to be enjoyed without language barriers. Every January, Kolibrí makes an open call for proposals from artists, scientists and creatives residing in Finland, to innovate its program. www.kolibrifestivaali.org
2. Lukupesä: a holistic program to support and develop reading practices in our own heritage language, aimed at immigrant families and other interested people. The program includes guided tours to children's literature collections that you can find at the public libraries (HelMet), training sessions, and storytelling workshops. All activities are free of charge and multilingual. https://www.ninho.fi/what-we-do/lukupesa/
During the year, through these and other projects, Ninho brings visibility to the talent of the migrant community in Finland and provides information for Spanish-speaking families about support services for the development and maintenance of the heritage language.
We invite you to learn more about our projects and to be part of Ninho. Visit www.ninho.fi and follow us on IG and FB. We work in Spanish, Portuguese, and English, in addition to the official languages of Finland.
